PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum Pet Water Fountain - Automatic 168oz Dog & Cat Drinking Bowl for Fresh Water - Perfect for Home, Office, or Travel Use

I originally purchased this in September of 2012. I was extremely excited to get the unit as I had read all the reviews and I wanted to see how my 3 amigos would react. The unit was simple to set up and I had the unit running in no time. Oh, I highly recommend the Drinkwell Platinum fountain mat I bought this ~1yr ago I waited to review because it took a while for my cat to warm up to it. I honestly almost returned it because I didn’t think she would use it. Then I found out she was using it just when she thought I wan’t looking. I run a dehumidifier pretty close to the fountain so it was hard to tell if it was her or that making the water go down. I still keep the water pressure turned all the way down as she does not drink from the bowl part (from what I’ve seen) and only drinks from the stream. The fountain is quiet and reservoir is big enough to where I only have to fill it ~1x per month. I have 1 cat who has 4 water bowls + the fountain so fill frequency may vary for you. My only gripe is that it’s big and annoying to clean (not difficult, just annoying) or maybe I’m lazy - prob a combo. I dread cleaning it- staring at it now and it definitely needs to be cleaned. Since she won’t drink from the bowl it doesn’t get all slimy and gross for a while but does collect whatever debris happens to float by. I’d say I do a thorough cleaning ~every 3 months. If I still had my 2 cats I would probably be cleaning it monthly. It makes a calm trickling sort of sound and only gets a bit louder when you turn it up. It sounds like a plastic water feature. She likes it so I like it. I would recommend this fountain. I don’t know if I would buy the same one again but I think this one is going to last a long time so we’ll see what’s on the market when the time comes.My 3 cats love this fountain and I like it better that other fountain products I have tried. My sister also has this fountain for her cats and it has lasted her for years. My cats love the flow of the water and definitely drink more since I started getting them this product. It's also easy to keep clean and easy to assemble. My only gripe is that I can't figure out why it overflows every so often. When this happens, it causes a huge mess on the floor. I keep the fountain clean and change the filters regularly. Sometimes cat hair gets caught in the little gate behind the lever, though, and I have to clean that gate regularly. I think that may be the cause of the periodic overflows, but I'm not sure. Purchasing a new fountain has not solved the issue. Does anyone else have this overflow problem?Well the cats do actually drink from this. They used it as soon as I set it up, and they drink from it whenever they want. It has stopped them being desperate to drink from the taps - in fact they don't do that anymore. The motor is quiet(ish). The trickle rate is good and the capacity is certainly enough for two cats.This is my second PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain. First one lasted 3 years. It runs 24/7 outstand quality, highly recommend.Dogs love it, it is silent, but does need the filters to be bought regularly to work efficiently.
